Important information

Thank you for considering UVic Law, widely acknowledged as one of Canada's finest law schools and a leader in the interdisciplinary study of law.

An Admissions Committee of faculty members and student representatives determines admission to the Faculty of Law. The committee typically reviews over 1,000 applications for approximately 105 available places in the first year of the J.D. program. The number of applications for admission as an upper-level student also typically exceeds the number of spaces available.

Please complete your application form carefully and thoroughly so that we can give your application full and fair consideration. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the appropriate admission requirements before you submit your application.

Transcripts

You need to make arrangements with every post-secondary institution you have attended or are currently attending, with the exception of UVic, to have one official transcript sent directly to the Law Admissions Office (see below). You can send transcripts for all completed post-secondary courses when you first apply and again when any additional courses are completed. Transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by a notarized English translation.

English language requirement

The University of Victoria requires applicants whose first language is not English to submit proof of English proficiency by one of the following:

  • Completion of three years of post-secondary education in which the primary language of instruction was English or
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of 100 or higher on the Internet-based test (iBT), with no less than 25 on each of the individual components, or a score of 600 (out of a possible 677) on the paper-based test.

Students applying to the Joint Common Law/Civil Law Degree Program are exempt from this requirement.

If you are not applying online, please remit the application fee by cheque or money order to the Law Admissions office. Your application will not be considered until this fee is received.Apply to UVic Law

Transcripts and other supporting documents do not need to meet the application deadlines, but should be forwarded to the Admissions Office as soon as possible. It is your responsibility to ensure that your application and documentation are complete. Applications will not be evaluated until they are complete. We will contact you if your application is incomplete.
