Benefits of studying at UVic Law

The University of Victoria is a mid-sized university of about 20,000 students situated in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The UVic Faculty of Law is one of Canada's leading law schools and enjoys a first-rate reputation for its high academic standards, its exceptional instructors (including many internationally renowned scholars) and its strong commitment to students.

UVic Law's supportive learning environment is both personally enriching and intellectually stimulating. The school is widely recognized for its research leadership, inspired teaching and community engagement. Its innovative programs and experiential learning opportunities are offered within a diverse and welcoming West Coast environment.

Situated on the southernmost tip of Vancouver Island, Victoria is a major government centre and world-renowned tourism destination. The city is consistently rated as one of the most liveable and beautiful communities in the world. An appreciation of nature and participation in a variety of exhilarating outdoor activities are vital aspects of the "Vancouver Island lifestyle." The region boasts one of Canada's mildest climates, with opportunities for surfing, kayaking, hiking, cycling, windsurfing, sailing (as well as less strenuous forms of entertainment) all within easy reach.

UVic's park-like setting features large trees, gardens, ponds, sculpture, totem poles and even the occasional deer sighting. UVic is a 15-minute drive from the city centre and about a 10-minute walk from the Pacific Ocean, with frequent bus service to other Greater Victoria neighbourhoods. Dining facilities, sports venues, wireless Internet access, the Diana M. Priestly Law Library and many other amenities are located right on campus. Accommodation in dormitory-style residences is also available, but students are advised to reserve a room as soon as they apply for admission to the summer session program.

Tuition and fees

Students admitted for the summer session on a full-time basis (6 or more units) are charged a flat tuition rate for the term, plus applicable student fees. Students taking less than a full course load (less than 6 units) are charged per unit of course work, plus applicable student fees.

For the 2011 Summer Session, the tuition for Canadian students was approximately $4,254 per term for full-time students and $568 per unit for part-time students. For international students, the tuition was approximately $11,314 for full-time students and $1,509 per unit for part-time students.
