Important notice for prospective students

In 2010, the University of Victoria Faculty of Law officially changed the name of its Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.) to Juris Doctor (J.D.). We are updating the UVic Law website to reflect this important development. Prospective students should take any non-historical reference to “Bachelor of Laws” or “LL.B.” on the website to mean “Juris Doctor” or J.D.”

The J.D. designation was implemented in the fall of 2010. Students who convocated in November 2010 were the first UVic Law graduates to receive J.D. degrees instead of LL.B. degrees. Please note that the requirements for the J.D. program are exactly the same as those for the LL.B. program.

If you would like to learn more about the Juris Doctor program or how to apply for admission to UVic Law, please explore the “Prospective students” section of our website or contact the Admissions Office at lawadmss@uvic.ca or 250.721.8151.

Thank you!
