Graduation information
Congratulations, graduates!
The University of Victoria holds two convocation ceremonies per year, in June and November.
Law students wishing to qualify for November convocation must finish their UVic J.D. degree requirements by the end of August. Students wishing to qualify for June convocation must finish their UVic J.D. degree requirements by the end of April.
Applications and Deadlines
Graduating students must apply to graduate. Application deadlines are normally December 1 for June graduation and July 1 for November graduation. An Application for Graduation form can be picked up at the Faculty of Law's main office or at Undergraduate Records in the University Centre Building. It can also be obtained online through the Office of the Registrar and Enrolment Services. If you are away from campus and do not have Internet access, you can arrange to have the form faxed to you by contacting the Faculty of Law. If you miss a deadline, please contact Undergraduate Records directly.
The University requires you to submit a $50 fee ($40 grad fee plus $10 UVSS grad class fee) with the application.
Please see the University Ceremonies and Events website for graduation ceremony information.
For more information, please go to the Undergraduate Records website or contact the Records office at records@uvic.ca or 250.721.8121.
Letters of Completion
Occasionally, for articling or bar admission course purposes, law societies require students to provide a letter from their Faculty stating that there graduation is pending. These letters state, for example, that the student is registered in his or her final term of the program and, upon successful completion of the term, will have completed all the requirements of the J.D. degree and will be eligible to convocate. Students may obtain such letters from the Associate Dean's Office.
