Associate Dean Academic and Student Relations: Heather Raven, Q.C.
Professor Raven is the Associate Dean Academic and Student Relations. Her office is responsible for the day-to-day administration of all matters related to the undergraduate (J.D.) student academic program and student relations with other members of the law school community.
The office is responsible for publicizing course offerings, working with instructors on evaluation methods for their courses, scheduling exams, academic accommodation (such as deferral of assignments or exams for health, family, financial or other reasons), enforcement of academic policies and regulations, student discipline, guidance to students about their academic programs, exchange terms, classroom environment, codenames, harassment, inquiries about counseling services and academic integrity matters.
The Associate Dean’s office works closely with other administrative staff in the Faculty, such as Dean Greschner, the Director of Law Co-op Francine Proctor, UVic Law Financial Aid Officer Dawn Zacour, Law Careers Officer Stephanie Mitchell, the UVic Law Students’ Society (L.S.S.) executive, and Law Librarian Neil Campbell. The Associate Dean also maintains contact with on-campus departments such as the UVic Resource Centre for Students with a Disability, UVic Health Services, UVic Student Counseling Services, the Registrar’s Office, the Student Financial Aid Office and Campus Security. One of the roles of the Associate Dean’s office is assisting students to succeed in their academic program, which may include helping them connect with other resources on campus.

Yvonne Lawson (lawmaass@uvic.ca 721-8153) Manager, Academic Administration and Student Services; Yvonne works closely with the Associate Dean Academic, the Associate Dean Administration and the front office staff and manages registration, timetabling, building operations and the Faculty’s budget.
Bev Asplin (lawaoa@uvic.ca 721-6162) Acting Assistant to the Manager, Academic Administration and Student Services; assists Yvonne Lawson with front office administration, faculty requests, building and classroom audio-visual needs, course evaluation surveys and with facilitating assignment collections.
Maxine Matilpi (mmatilpi@uvic.ca 721-8171) Director, Academic and Cultural Support Program; delivers classes and tutorials to support students in the first-year program, provides individual counselling and assistance to Indigenous, Special Access and N.C.A. students, cultural support to Indigenous students and facilitates cultural activities for Special Access and N.C.A. students.

Karen Crawford (lawada@uvic.ca 721-8152) Assistant to the Associate Dean Academic and Student Relations; Karen supports the Associate Dean in a variety of areas and is responsible for creating codenames, entering grades, and working with exchange students coming to UVic and exchange students travelling away from UVic.
