The Road to Law School

How to Apply

  1. Start your on-line application now

    This link will take you to the B.C. Post-Secondary Application Service (ApplyBC), which is a common application form used by all applicants to B.C. post-secondary institutions. Once you have completed this application, you will be directed back to the UVic online application form.

  2. Complete your application with UVic MYSTATUS.

    Once you have submitted your application using ApplyBC, you will be taken to the UVic application page, where you will choose the Law Program. Information from ApplyBC will be brought forward with you to this page and you will be given a login ID and PIN

  3. Check the status of your application.

    You can now check the status of your application. Please note that on-line applications are uploaded to our database on Tuesdays of each week. Consequently, there will be no changes to the status of your application until after the upload.

Your first year of UVic Law

The Law Faculty admits a relatively small first year class each fall and offers three admission categories (Regular, Special Access and Aboriginal) to ensure the student body reflects the diversity found in Canadian society.

Applications are also considered from students in other law schools or with foreign law degrees who wish to attend the Faculty of Law as upper level students in either fall, spring or summer semester.

After the first year, the choice of courses is largely optional, although students are required to complete Civil Procedure with Drafting (Law 307B) and Evidence (Law 309). At some time during these two years, students must also complete a major research paper. Students must take a minimum of 29.0 units of upper year credits to complete the program. Students should consult the course registration materials at the Faculty web site for Faculty to determine the mandatory and recommended pre-requisites and co-requisites for particular courses prior to selecting upper level courses.

Graduate Level LL.M. and Ph.D.

Graduate Program In Law UVic Law is widely acknowledged to be one of Canada's finest law schools. It has wonderful faculty, a collegial atmosphere, a stimulating intellectual environment, and a strong commitment to social justice at home and abroad. It is a leader in the interdisciplinary study of law.

The LL.M. and Ph.D. programs reflect these features. Graduate programs at UVic are challenging, collaborative, and interdisciplinary. Students work closely with each other and with leading scholars in Law, Political Science, Philosophy, and other fields.
